In 1993, Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) was born in the tide of reform and opening up. In 1994, it was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations as the first and only international competitive feature film festival in China to this day.

The rich history and the times have nurtured Shanghai’s urban spirit of “inclusiveness and diversity, pursuit of excellence, enlightened wisdom and humility”, alongside its character of openness, innovation, and inclusivity. SIFF, upholding the philosophy centering around “Asia, Chinese Film, and New Talents” coupled with its mindset of being a pioneering, professional, and global event, has catalyzed positive contributions to the development of China’s film undertaking and industry, as well as the growth of Shanghai’s core competitiveness and cultural soft power, while consistently meeting the cultural demands of the general public who love cinema.

The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) will take place in June 2025. Starting today, SIFF is officially open for submissions worldwide, encompassing five competitive sections of the Golden Goblet Awards - Main Competition, Asian New Talent, Documentary, Animation, Short Film, as well as International Panorama. The deadline for submission is March 31, 2025.

奖项

The Festival designates the members of the Jury as well as President for

Golden Goblet Award competition programs. Decision on each award will be

officially announced at the Closing & Awards Ceremony. No person having

taken part in the production or exploitation of a film in competition may be on

the Jury. All jury members are sworn to secrecy.

The Juries are obliged to present:

Main Competition

- An award for BEST FEATURE FILM (The award will be presented to the

producer.)

- JURY GRAND PRIX

- An award for BEST DIRECTOR

- An award for BEST ACTRESS(The award will be presented to the leading

actress.)

- An award for BEST ACTOR(The award will be presented to the leading

actor.)

- An award for BEST SCREENPLAY

- An award for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY (The award will be presented to

the DOP.)

- An Award for OUTSTANDING ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT in the categories

(music,artistic directing,costume, editing,make-up, etc.)

Documentary Competition

- An Award for BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM (The award will be presented to

the director.)

Animation Competition

- An Award for BEST ANIMATION FILM (The award will be presented to the

director.)

The directors and main casts of the selected films will be invited to attend the

Festival.( Detailed offerings will be indicated in the invitation separately. )

Film Submission Guidelines

Main Competition

1.Films that have been completed in the country of origin after April 1, 2024. World premieres or international premieres are preferred.

2.Films that have not been selected in an international section (competitive or not) of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF; films that have not been released commercially other than their country of origin.

3.he minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4.Format: DCP.

Asian New Talent

1.Films that have been completed in the country of origin after April 1, 2024. World premieres or international premieres are preferred.

2.Films that are Asian director’s first or second feature films;

3.The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4.Format: DCP.

Documentary

1.Films that have been completed in the country of origin after April 1, 2024. World premieres or international premieres are preferred.

2.Films that have not been selected in the main competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF;

3.The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4.Format: DCP.

Animation

1.Films that have been completed in the country of origin after April 1, 2024. World premiere or international premiere is preferred.

2.Films that have not been in the main competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF;

3.The minimum running time is 60 minutes.

4.Format: DCP.

Short Film

1.Live-action or animated short films that have been completed after April 1, 2024, are eligible for submission. Note that documentary shorts cannot be submitted as live-action projects, while documentaries made using animation techniques may be submitted as animated shorts.

2.Preference will be given to world premieres and international premieres. Chinese films must be world premieres.

3.A running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits.

4.Films that have not been in the competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF.

5.Films that must not be exhibited publicly or distributed anywhere in any nontheatrical form before SIFF.

6.Formats: Unencrypted DCP, or unencrypted digital HD formats at 24 fps/48 fps, with aspect ratios that meet cinema screening standards.

Special Note

At this year's SIFF, the Best Live Action Short Film and the Best Animated Short Film will each receive RMB 30,000 (tax included).

International Panorama

1.Films that have been completed after January 1, 2024.

2.The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

3.Format: DCP.

In June 2025, we welcome filmmakers from around the world to gather in Shanghai, to deepen connections and witness the charm of film art.

GOLDEN GOBLET AWARD Short

A short film is defined as an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits. This excludes from consideration such works as: Previews and advertising films; Sequences from feature-length films, such as credit sequences; Unaired episodes of established TV series; Unsold TV series pilots 1.A live action film that meets the following qualifying criteria is eligible for Short Film Competition of Golden Goblet Award: 1)A live action film uses imagery created primarily through practical photographic techniques used to capture physical actors, props, sets, and locations. Documentary short subjects will not be accepted in the live action category. 2)A Short film that has been completed in the country of origin after April1, 2024. World premiere or International premiere is preferred. 3)Film that has not been in the competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF. 4)The Short film must not be exhibited publicly or distributed anywhere in any nontheatrical form before the Festival. Nontheatrical public exhibition or distribution includes but is not limited to: Broadcast and cable television PPV/VOD DVD distribution Internet transmission 2.An animated film that meets the following qualifying criteria is eligible for Short Film Competition of Golden Goblet Award: 1)An animated film is created by using a frame-by-frame technique, and usually falls into one of the two general fields of animation: character or abstract. Some of the techniques of animating films include cel animation, computer animation, stop-motion, clay animation, pixilation, cutouts, pins, camera multiple pass imagery, kaleidoscopic effects, and drawing on the film frame itself. Documentaries created by animation technique can be accepted in the animation category. 2)A Short film that has been completed in the country of origin after April 1, 2024. World premiere or International premiere is preferred. 3)Film that has not been in the competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF. 4)The Short film must not be exhibited publicly or distributed anywhere in any nontheatrical form before the Festival. Nontheatrical public exhibition or distribution includes but is not limited to: Broadcast and cable television PPV/VOD DVD distribution Internet transmission
