Introduction to the film festival

The Veterans Film Festival (VFF) is an annual event that brings people together to discover extraordinary stories about veterans, first responders, all who experience warfare and their families. The VFF offers a meeting ground and artistic platform for veterans working artists, filmmakers and artists to network as creative practitioners, showcase their work and engage with audiences of all ages, cultures and abilities. The festival presents a curated program of carefully selected features, documentaries, short films and media art, focusing on recent work by talented indie artists from Australia and around the globe. Within our program we will also present mainstream films to gala premieres, retrospectives to themed screenings, as well as crowd pleasing events i.e. workshops, discussions, exhibitions and provide opportunities to meet with veterans, filmmakers and content creators via Q&A’s, panels, etc. All films submitted to the official competition will be eligible to compete for the coveted Red Poppy Awards, inspired by the poem ‘In Flanders Field’. The Veterans Film Festival is a not-for-profit arts organisation, whose aim is to: discover and showcase the next generation of storytellers, artists and media makers; provide a platform to veterans with a passion for developing as artists and are committed to working in the creative industries; encourage talent and assist in the development of independent film, filmmakers and the film related arts community; raise awareness and support the employment of veterans as creative practitioners and contribute to our understanding of those who have been part of international warfare.(Sfilmmaker is our exclusive platform for cooperation in China, and we look forward to your good film.)
