About the Film Festival
Ru-mòre — Cinema and Audiovisual Experimentation Festival is a widespread festival: in its ninth edition, from April 14 to 18, 2027, it takes over Rome's San Lorenzo district turning Cinema Tibur and public spaces across the neighbourhood into a single living stage for author-driven cinema and audiovisual experimentation.
What you'll find here that you won't find everywhere:
- A festival spread across multiple venues in one of Rome's most vibrant neighbourhoods, with a real, present audience, not just a screening slot.
- A dedicated focus on new technologies — artificial intelligence treated as a creative language, not a tool.

Four times in FilmFreeway's Top 100 (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023), our competition has hosted Palma d'Oro winners, Oscar nominees and EFA winners, and discovered many filmmakers at the very beginning of their journey. SHORT FILM COMPETITION
We accept submissions in the following categories:
- Italian Short — under 20 minutes, of any genre and theme
- International Short — under 20 minutes, of any genre and theme
- Short Documentaries — under 20 minutes, both Italian and international
- Animation Short — under 20 minutes, both Italian and international
Dedicated to works distributed after June 1, 2025. All films, including Italian ones, must have English subtitles, under penalty of ineligibility. A maximum of two works per author may be submitted. Selected filmmakers will be screened in April 2027 in Rome and invited to take part in our community.
Jury
The Festival Jury will consist of national and international experts in film, theatre, literature, journalism, and the arts. Their decisions are final and unappealable. The Jury may, at its sole discretion, award special mentions in all categories. Jury members will be announced on the Festival's website and social media pages before the event. A total of 5 jurors will be assigned to the different categories.
OUT OF COMPETITION SECTION
Frequenze Medie – Out of Competition
Dedicated to works with a runtime between 20 and 40 minutes, distributed after June 1, 2025. This section provides a curated space for medium-length films that do not fall within the competitive categories but still reflect the festival's vision for innovation and experimentation. All works, including Italian ones, must have English subtitles, under penalty of ineligibility. A maximum of two works per author may be submitted.
- Frequenze Medie — from 20 to 40 minutes, both Italian and international
Selected works in this section will receive a screening fee of €50.00 per work.
CALL FOR IDEAS
Ru-mòre, in collaboration with Read My Script, also hosts a script competition for short films and first/second feature films (fiction, documentary or animation, no genre restriction) open to both Italian and international screenwriters.
We will accept submissions in the following categories:
- National Short Films
- National Feature Films
- International Short Films
- International Feature Films
Materials for national projects must be in Italian; for international projects, in English. We will select 4 finalists for each category.
Participants must submit one single PDF file (in the same language as the application) including, in the following order:
- A logline (max 500 characters)
- A treatment (max 2 pages for shorts, max 5 pages for features)
- Three scripted scenes
If selected, the submitter will be contacted regarding the technical specifications and additional materials, including the complete screenplay in English.
Training program
Authors of international projects (both short and feature categories) will have access to 2 free online workshops:
- Pitching Techniques, including direct meetings with tutors;
- Pitch deck structure and revision.
For authors of selected national projects (both short and feature categories), the following is provided:
- Pitching Techniques workshop, with online meetings with tutors;
- Live pitch training with direct meetings with tutors;
- Pitch deck structure and revision;
- Presentation of projects at a pitch forum before an audience of producers, broadcasters and industry professionals during the Festival's Industry Corner in Rome.
Participation is mandatory for selected projects; otherwise, selection will be withdrawn.
Jury
The Call for Ideas Jury will consist of experts appointed by Read My Script. Those involved in the submitted projects are excluded. Their decisions are final. Jury names will be announced on the Festival website and social media pages prior to the event.
IMMERSIVE REALITY
Ru-mòre — Cinema and Audiovisual Experimentation Festival 2027 features a section fully dedicated to immersive media and creative XR works. This section is divided into two parts:
- VR Competition: five linear VR video works (max 30 minutes) by national and international creators are selected.
- XR Showcase: immersive projects presented out of competition by invitation only. These include the best internationally produced or showcased works. Eligible formats include linear VR experiences, videos and XR works (3DOF and 6DOF), installations and virtual worlds of any length.
The initiative takes place in the San Lorenzo district, and includes immersive presentations, talks, and dedicated events.
Eligibility Criteria – VR Competition
Eligible linear VR video works produced after 01/01/2025, with a maximum runtime of 30 minutes, in English or with English subtitles. Each author may submit a maximum of two works.
INDUSTRY
Ru-mòre — Cinema and Audiovisual Experimentation Festival invites emerging Bulgarian producers to apply for Focus LCC: Bulgaria, a focused industry event taking place during Ru-mòre Industry Days, 15–18 April 2027 in Rome.
Focus LCC: Bulgaria is a curated professional platform connecting Bulgarian feature film projects in development primarily with Italian producers, broadcasters, and key industry professionals, while also engaging a selected group of international industry professionals. The platform fosters exchange, collaboration, and co-production opportunities. Participation is free of charge.

SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
- Categories: National Short Films, National Feature Films, International Short Films, International Feature Films.
- Participants must submit one single PDF file, in the same language as the application (Italian for national projects, English for international ones), including, in order: a logline (max 500 characters), a story (2 pages for shorts, 5 pages for features) and three scripted scenes.
- If selected, participants must submit additional materials in PDF format (in the application language): for short film projects, the complete screenplay; for feature projects, a treatment (max 10 pages); together with the author's biography and contact details, and any pitch deck already available.
- At the end of the training program, national projects must deliver a complete pitch deck; international projects must deliver a video pitch (in English with English subtitles) and a complete or updated pitch deck.
- Participation in the training program is mandatory for selected projects; otherwise, selection will be withdrawn.
VR COMPETITION
- Open to linear VR video works produced after 01/01/2025.
- Running time must not exceed 30 minutes.
- Works must be in English or have English subtitles.
- A maximum of two works per author may be submitted.
- Works of a pornographic nature will not be accepted.
GENERAL RULES
By participating in the competition, the author authorizes the processing of their personal data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Legislative Decree 196/2003, as amended by Legislative Decree 101/2018.
The signatory of the application declares to hold all rights to the work and to each of its components; guarantees that the content of the work is under their ownership and does not violate any applicable laws or regulations, nor any third-party rights, including but not limited to authorship rights, image rights, trademarks, and patents for industrial inventions. The signatory further guarantees and declares that the work does not contain any defamatory content.
In any case, the participant shall hold the organization harmless from any loss, damage, liability, cost, charge, or expense of any kind that may be incurred due to the content of the work and its public screening.

Linear VR video works produced after January 1, 2025. Maximum runtime: 30 minutes. Works must be in English or have English subtitles. A maximum of two works per author may be submitted. Works of a pornographic nature will not be accepted. In case of selection, the submitter will be contacted for technical specifications and promotional materials.
